My first rescue was in a set of caverns that no one knew the nature or even location of. Lightwings go anywhere, and we keep a variety of magical aids nearby to enable to find almost anyone, almost anywhere, and get them home. In this case, it was of little use. We had a clairvoyant locate the being, it was an injured Kethrii cleric, who had teleported, in a near-death state after saving her 4 companions. She was lost, dying, and in extremely dangerous terrain. After summoning attempts failed, I began teleporting at random. 5 hours and 43 teleports later, I had the luck to stumble into her. We praised the fates and recalled to the Portal of Welcome. After that, they pretty much had to let me into the guild.
